Smokin' Joe's Rib Ranch and the legendary BBQ started in 2007, with a crazy idea from our dad, Joe Wells. He pitched the business idea to our mom; Reggie Wells and she agreed if we always try our best to honor God in life and in doing business, she was good to go with the restaurant. That is why we are closed on Sundays for church, and we do not serve alcohol in our establishment. The original BBQ was sold out of a gas station at the edge of town in Sulphur, OK. Business for the BBQ took off and was moved out of the gas station and into a small building in Davis, OK. Joe pulled our brother, Coby and Coby's wife, Bobbie Jo, in to help with the demands of the restaurant. Later, they had us, friends, cousins, aunts, grandmas, grandpas and everyone in between helping sling BBQ and cater. What started out as helping family quickly turned into a full time, family ran BBQ restaurant and rib joint. The BBQ Mafia was born! It grew to be bigger than the small building could accommodate; therefore, Jollyville was purchased on the outside of Davis, OK near I-35 where it exists today, still serving some of the best BBQ in Oklahoma. In 2022 our dad finally talked us into doing our own BBQ joint. In November 2024 the building was completed, and The Noble Smokin' Joe's BBQ was added to the family business.
My name is Somer, and I am the middle child of 3. I’m the one that some would also call a little “extra”. My older brother, Coby, and my dad are the ones that run the original Smokin’ Joe’s in Davis, OK. They played a huge part in helping my sister and I out with the restaurant and we are very grateful. Of course, this wouldn’t be possible without our prayer warrior momma either!
A bit about myself and my family…
We live in Norman and all of our kids went to Norman North High school. All but one will graduate from there. I’m married to, Adam. He is a welder but soon to be a “honey do” this for the restaurant guy. Together we have 4 kids + two. Our son, Daimron will be helping run the restaurant and now lives in Noble. Kaitlyn is in college and works at the restaurant during the summer and for a private school in Edmond, plus volleyball coach during school. Kolby, a mechanic, married to Rachel, and is expecting their first baby boy in Dec 2024. Kayle is a Senior at Norman North. He works at the restaurant, a small engine repair shop and Braum’s. Jes is kind of like our adopted daughter. She graduated this year at age 16 and is now going to OU. She works at the restaurant, as well.
I worked as a para for Norman Public Schools for the past 13 years! Eisenhower Elementary will forever have my heart, but since my own kids are all getting older, I thought it would be a great time to start a new adventure. I’m hopeful this new adventure will also put me in a better position to help fight for what is right for our future generations and public education.
My other hope is to make this a fun, FAMILY restaurant with games, singing, a nice “pigio” (patio). No alcohol will be served. Our prayer warrior momma said, “No!” Always listen to your momma!
We feel excitement and support from Noble! We truly appreciate everyone with all the positive comments and prayers. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your support! We love you all already!
I am Taylor, the youngest sibling of the family. I decided to leave my 9-5, office job, to embark on this restaurant adventure with my sister and carry on the legend of my dad’s great BBQ, customer service, and work ethic. My daughter, Jordan, also works in the restaurant with us. You will usually find her at the front counter taking orders, at the drive through and taking care of customers. My son is still in school and most of his time is filled with sports and attending other high school events.
